PROJECT 22-030: SEAMLESS SEATTLE PEDESTRIAN WAYFINDING EXPANSION – PLANNING AND DESIGN

The City of Seattle, through Seattle Department of Transportation, requests Statements of Proposals from qualified firms for SDOT 22-030: Seamless Seattle Pedestrian Wayfinding Expansion – Planning and Design.

Seamless Seattle is the City of Seattle’s new pedestrian directional wayfinding program. The first phase of new wayfinding standard signs is currently under construction in downtown Seattle.

Through this solicitation, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is seeking a wayfinding design consultant to support the design and planning of the next phase of expansion of the Seamless Seattle wayfinding program in downtown Seattle leading to major pedestrian destinations such as the Waterfront, Pike Place Market, Summit Convention Center, Seattle Center, and stadiums.

It is anticipated this contract will receive FHWA federal funds and is proceeding under this assumption.

The City expects to achieve the following outcomes through this consultant solicitation:

  • Hire a creative and experienced wayfinding design firm to create sign location plans and artworks for Seamless Seattle Pedestrian Wayfinding system expansion in the 5-10-minute walking distance connecting transit stations and stops to major downtown destinations and neighborhoods.
  • Hire a skilled wayfinding information design firm/team with a demonstrated record and experience in design and implementation of city pedestrian wayfinding implementation in complex, urban areas, including wayfinding for users with a range of abilities, and wayfinding elements that incorporate universal design principals.
  • Hire a skilled wayfinding information firm/team capable of designing a tactical/temporary pedestrian wayfinding sign family to supplement permanent Seamless Seattle wayfinding signs. The tactical/temporary sign family would be deployed to provide supplementary wayfinding support during surge events such as sporting competitions.

The Seattle Department of Transportation intends to award for an initial contract amount of $180,000, and duration of 3 years. The initial contract amount and duration may be increased in varying contract dollar amounts and extended up to 5-years. This design phase is required to be completed within a 6-month period from Notice to Proceed.
