Description

Ice Harbor Turbine Cooling Water Strainer Exclusion Structure

November 2024

The US Army Corps of Engineers Walla Walla District is seeking sources for the metal fabrication and installation of a screened exclusion structure to be placed over a cooling water intake at Ice Harbor Dam. As fish pass through a turbine route, they can be entrained in the cooling water strainer systems at Ice Harbor Lock and Dam. Through an alternative analysis process, USACE has determined that installing a screened exclusion structure over the intake vent will reduce or eliminate the numbers of fish entering the intake. The screened structure must allow sufficient water flow through and around the structure to maintain the existing flows and be self-cleaning. USACE will provide completed design package for fabrication and installation. Installation will occur in a turbine scroll case of Ice Harbor Dam. The screened structure will be modular in design to meet access size limitations into the scroll case and will be assembled on site. Mounting the screened structure to the scroll case wall will be accomplished with a series of anchors. The intake vent in the turbine unit is approximately 18’ above the scroll case floor, so scaffolding will be required for installation.

This will be a firm-fixed-price Construction with supply contract. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this project is 237990 and the associated small business size standard is $45 million.
